How EIP-1559 Gas Works
Base Fee
Set by the protocol each block. Burned (not paid to validators). Adjusts ±12.5% based on block fullness.
Max Priority Fee
Your tip to the validator. Determines how quickly your tx is picked up. Too low = stuck in mempool.
Max Fee
Your absolute cap. Must be ≥ Base Fee + Priority Fee or tx won't be included. Unused gas is refunded.
Why Not Just Use Gas Price?
Legacy (Type 0) txs still work but you overpay unpredictably. EIP-1559 (Type 2) gives tighter control and refunds excess.
